Shep bemoans the rising cost of lobster. One restaurant has even written "ask for estimate" on menu. He predicts a day when lobsters will only be found in aquariums and museums.
He tells a restaurant horror story in which his date orders several expensive cocktails. He then discovers a caterpillar in his salad.

I tried to do some sleuthing on the exact date of this program. I was able to determine it was a repeat of Shep's May 8, 1972 show. The commercial for TV Guide referenced an issue that is listed as May 11-18. Also, the recording I heard has a snippet of John Wingate's news at the tail end. It features a commercial for an event that will take place Monday, May 13. Wingate also teases a story about an 87-year-old man who rides his motorcycle daily. I've found some articles in newspaper archives that feature 87-year-old Earl Gregg of Ohio who rides his motorcycle around a dirt track at his home. Most papers feature it on May 7, 1974. While I can't garner an exact date from this, it can probably be narrowed to sometime during the week of May 6-11.

I was also able to identify one of the songs used in the show as "Bahnfarht" (links in the summary attached), however the third piece used remains a mystery to me. It sounds like the Dixieland Jug Blowers, but I couldn't match it with anything available online, including the already identified pieces on your page. Comments: 0
