Shep says it is Friday. He then talks about calling information on the phone and talking with the girl about the 3 day weekend then wishes her a Merry Christmas. He then talks about it being the 21st - shortest day of the year. He plays music from 2001 Space Odyssy - If he was correct about it being the 21st, then it is same to assume Friday December 21st. 2001 S.O. came out in 1968. The only time that the 21st fell on a Friday from 1968 to 1977 was in 1973.
