Show Description
[ Courtesy: Ryan Priest - 01-19-2017 ] Shep opens the program with a news story about Caesar the Starling (See clipping below). The rest of the show is dedicated to frogs. He reads the following poems about frogs: "The Frog" by Hilaire Belloc "Warty Bliggens the Toad" by Don Marquis "The Arrogant Frog and the Superior Bull" by Guy Wetmore Carryl Shep tells about the time in Miss Crystal Reeder's biology class when he was partnered with Pearl (Arauz) to dissect a frog. He did all of the work, but she got a better grade. He closes with a story from the Wall Street Journal detailing the shortage of frogs used for frog legs because many are being shipped to college campuses to be dissected. During the show he mentions reading a book by Thorne Smith, but can't remember the title. The book was "The Stray Lamb".

[Ryan Priest - 1/19/2017] I initially thought this show might be mis-dated because the story about the starling appears in a number of newspapers in January 1970. However, the commercials for ShopRite and TV Guide confirmed this was from 1971. ShopRite didn't begin its "Can-Can Sale" until 1971. Also, the TV Guide issue being advertised mentioned Flip Wilson on the cover, which indeed was from this week in 1971. I also noticed that the music used wasn't listed on your music page. I was able to identify one cut using a Google app on my phone. The second cut was from the same artist, but I haven't pinned down the title yet. [Jim] You may be right. If the show was re-run in 1971, the commercials would have been updated.
