NEWARK- New Jersey- birthplace of celluloid film and patent leather shoes, home to Thomas Edison and William Carlos Williams, and site of this country's greatest industrial boom - will be examined by National Public Radio's news magazine, "All Things Considered," tomorrow and Sunday from the station of WBGOFM, 88.3 FM. This live series of programs marks the first time the show has been broadcast outside of its studios in Washington. The hour long programs focusing on New Jersey will begin at 6 p.m. tomorrow and Sunday. Tomorrow, WBGO reporter Fred Fishkin will report on the Pine Barrens, the last undeveloped area of southern New Jersey. NEXT, NEAL CONAN will analyze the imminent New Jersey gubernatorial election. All Things Considered" also will take a look at a controversial referendum designed to protect New Jersey's rapidly disappearing farm land. On Sunday, Leslie Breeding and Noah Adams, hosts of the show, will tour Route 22 with Jean Shepherd, the New Jersey based humorist. Ira Flatow, NPR science correspondent, will report on the race by Princeton University to solve the problems of nuclear fusion. Also included in the special programs will be a profile of the late poet Williams, who lived In Paterson; a walking tour of Newark's ethnic neighborhoods, and an Inquiry into the pollution problems of New Jersey. "We welcome the staff of 'All Things Considered' to our studio,'' said Bob Ottenhoff, station manager of WBGO. "WE'RE DELIGHTED to have the opportunity to offer our facilities to tell a part of New Jersey's story. We think a careful examination of New Jersey's problems - as well as its assets - could be beneficial." WBGO is the state's only public radio station and the only member of the NPR network in New Jersey. It went on the air on a full-time basis in April 1979. Its programming emphasizes jazz, news and public affairs, Ottenhoff said. A 550-foot antenna was recently installed at Broad Street here, giving the station a wider reception area, Ottenhoff said. He said the station's signal now reaches across the state and as far East as Suffolk County in New York. A non-commercial station, WBGO receives its operating support from corporate underwriting, foundations, governmental agencies and listener contributions. As a member of the NPR service, WBGO also carries the shows "Morning Edition" Monday through Friday and "Jazz Alive" on Sunday nights.
