The "Phantom of the Open Hearth" is adapted from a film for TV by Jean Shepherd. It was broadcast on 'Visions', a weekly series of original television dramas produced under the artistic direction of Barbara Schultz, KCET, Los Angeles, and presented on the Public Broadcasting Service. A paperback version of "The Phantom of the Open Hearth will be available from Doubleday in the fall of 1977. The article is a reprint of a portion of the script.
